Wanted: One Coach. Must Have Own Whistle.
Go away for one weekend and your alma mater's football coach denies resignation rumors, ignores buyout rumors, and is finally fired.
I'm not happy; I'm never happy when UNC fires someone, and John Bunting loves North Carolina and ran a clean football program. But it didn't win on Saturday, and this year has been one long demonstration of the need for a new coach. I wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours.
And no, inevitable Google searchers, the Tar Heels will not be able to get Butch Davis. Fanblogs had some comments on the N&O's premature speculation, if you want a starting point.

Re: Bunting Firing Press Conference
Nor do I necessarily think that a coaching change will lead to a drop in integrity among the athletes. That will depend on who's hired, a decision that I hope errs on the side of academic standards and character. Not that the bringing in of consulting firms is a good start.
