From a UK fan, about history and our programs place in it
Eamonn Brennan wrote an article asking if UCONN could obtain Blue blood status. I wonder how, as UNC fans you all feel about it. I wrote my reply over at ASOB, and as an unquestioned member of this club, does this suggestion offend you? It does me, but it at least made me think about why we deserve the label and why others do not.

I don't really post a lot, but this subject really made me think about why it means something to have that moniker and what it means to water it down. Like I said before, I would definitely like input from other blue blood fan bases.

I dont think they should...
but I’m not losing sleep over it. UK and UNC have very rich traditions that transcend coaches and good players. UCONN is a good program no doubt but they are not Blue Blood worthy
Not even close
UConn was not even the best team this year much less the best in the tourney. They won a third title but they do not have the tradition that UK, UNC, KU, and UCLA do. I do not even put IU or Duke as Bluebloods in my opinion. The top four have been good for a very very long time, ie looking at 60+ years each, the rest are not there yet.
Two more things to add to the resume
I would suggest that besides what has already been mentioned, we should also look at the success of their alumni and did the programs change/elevate the game.
Carolina, Kansas, and UK have some pretty darned good NBA/ABA players the basketball HOF is littered with names like Jordan, Worthy, Chamberlain and Issel (is Issel the only UK HOFer?). Likewise, these programs always have NBA representation. UK is tied for second for NBA players on NBA rosters with 13. UNC and Kansas each have 12.
Phog Allen is practically the father of the tournament. Adolph Rupp perfected the fast break. Dean Smith desegregated UNC athletics, and invented the four-offense and the point zone.
