Reggie Bullock Out for the Season

UNC announced today that Reggie Bullock will not play for the rest of the season because of a torn lateral meniscus in his left knee. The knee has been giving him problems this season, and it's the one he had surgery on in high school. He apparently injured it again in the first half of the Maryland game, and although he made an attempt to play in the second half, it proved too difficult.

Bullock had been in a bit of a slump, last having a good shooting night a month ago in the first game against Boston College, but this is still a heavy blow to a team that has struggled with perimeter shooting all season. This leaves Harrison Barnes and Leslie McDonald as the only two players to have attempted over 30 three-pointers on the season. Expect more minutes from McDonald, even though he has typically played the two position while Bullock is on the court in the three. This could be a plus, giving him more time to find a shooting rhythm. Justin Watts might also see more court time, although he doesn't fit into this spot as well as his size would suggest, and his minutes have steadily decreased since conference play began.

Barnes is already the player with the most minutes on the team, and as it's his first season in college, I'm not sure how much more playing time you can expect from him, although he still gets ten or so minutes of rest a game. Overall, this is a problem but not an insurmountable one for the Heels; it will force them to be even more dependent on interior play and especially susceptible to zone defenses.
