Game Thread: Georgia Tech

North Carolina Tar Heels at Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Sep 26, 2009 12:00 PM EDT

The race for the ACC Championship begins here. For the Heels, at least – Georgia Tech's been at this for a while. I'm breaking out a new T-shirt for this, bringing some old school Rameses in on the action:

We'll see what kind of mojo it brings, because obviously my choice of apparel is critical to UNC's success on the field. The game's on local stations and ESPN's private internets.

first game I’m getting to watch this year. So far, no good.

Yep.

The T-shirt, it does nothing. Not unlike the Heels on the opening series.

little with another drop.

Draughns can’t create his own path like last week against ECU, and UNC’s first three passes have been dropped, dropped, and thrown behind. At least they’re getting plenty of sideline time to work things out.

4th and 4

we jumped….they just forgot to hike it…

by Bilzo on Sep 26, 2009 12:35 PM EDT reply actions

seriously....

how did we cover this sooooo much better last year?

by Bilzo on Sep 26, 2009 12:42 PM EDT reply actions

Missed field goals were a big help last season, too. Whenever GT is forced into traditional runs between the tackles or pocket passes, UNC owns them. The rest of the time, they’re hosed.

Phenomenal catch from Highsmith if it stands. (It won’t)

by T.H. on Sep 26, 2009 12:56 PM EDT reply actions

he didn’t catch that…that’s coming back. damnit.

by Bilzo on Sep 26, 2009 12:57 PM EDT reply actions

nice to see that it appears the defense is making appropriate adjustments.

by Bilzo on Sep 26, 2009 1:04 PM EDT reply actions

Best starting field position of the game for the Heels. If anything’s going to light a fire under the offense, now would be the time.

You have got to be kidding me.

by T.H. on Sep 26, 2009 1:08 PM EDT reply actions

i don’t eve get how that happens….how does your center not know the snap count?

by Bilzo on Sep 26, 2009 1:10 PM EDT up reply actions

upon further review….it appeared to me that yates was looking for the ball to come from the RG, and not the center.

by Bilzo on Sep 26, 2009 1:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Is the Tech defense just not very deep? Draughn is getting around the corner, the OL is holding up, and GT just looks tired.

by T.H. on Sep 26, 2009 1:16 PM EDT reply actions

either they’re tired or we’ve figured out how to run against them.

We have to lead the NCAA in dropped passes.

by Bilzo on Sep 26, 2009 1:19 PM EDT up reply actions

i think that was a busted play.

by Bilzo on Sep 26, 2009 1:19 PM EDT reply actions

Points would have been nice there. I know how Steelers fans feel now.

games like this do nothing...

for the ACC’s desire to gain national prominence, especially for televised games.

by Bilzo on Sep 26, 2009 1:22 PM EDT reply actions

Meh. I’ve seen plenty of Big Ten games duller than this. The ACC won’t gain national prominence until the have multiple teams winning big non-conference wins and carrying that over to ACC success. In the meantime, things like FSU going down 14 to a Matt Grothe-less USF is going to keep the conference out of any serious discussion.

Is this even a national game anyway? I’m seeing regional Raycom coverage.

no

and the big networks are thankful.

by Bilzo on Sep 26, 2009 1:53 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s on ESPN 360 as well, but no one’s seeing that but expat fans.

by T.H. on Sep 26, 2009 1:53 PM EDT up reply actions

I have the same facial expression as the old school strutting ram right now

We can easily pull this off if we get our act together though

That's a terrible spot

We are giving up the ghost here

got abused on that draw there.

by Bilzo on Sep 26, 2009 2:04 PM EDT reply actions

But I'll Give the Defense Credit

When they screw up, they regroup and try to make up for it. The offense? Just flounders.

by T.H. on Sep 26, 2009 2:06 PM EDT up reply actions

what the hell was that play call????

3rd and 6, run it right up the middle?

by Bilzo on Sep 26, 2009 2:12 PM EDT reply actions

I Guess You Can Only Give Tech So Many Chances...

… before they start taking advantage of them. We need that 4th quarter vs. UConn offense now.

by T.H. on Sep 26, 2009 2:26 PM EDT reply actions

You know, like that. Touchdown.

by T.H. on Sep 26, 2009 2:30 PM EDT up reply actions

You can’t allow them to convert on 3rd and 6 this late in the game.

by T.H. on Sep 26, 2009 2:38 PM EDT reply actions

how about letting ’em do it twice?
