UNC LAX Monday Update

The Tar Heels had another successful weekend on the field, going undefeated and earning a overall record of 4-0.

On Friday, No. 5 UNC played a decent No. 9 Navy team in Chapel Hill.  Junior Sean Delaney scored back to back goals in the last 6 minutes to lead the Heels to a 9-8 win.

Looking at the stats, however, the real story is in the faceoff and goalie circles.  Carolina won 17 of 21 faceoffs, a key stat in lacrosse.

UNC goalie Grant Zimmerman came up big and had 5 saves in the final period and a total of 10.

2 days later on Sunday, the boys in blue played No. 17 Colgate and came away with an 11-9 win.  UNC jumped out to a 6-0 lead before letting it slip away at the end of the half.  However the Heels finished the job after halftime.

Goalie Zimmerman had 9 saves and the team won 16 of 24 faceoffs.

UNC was workman like in both games, picking up at least 10 or more ground balls than the opposition.

The Tar Heels will move up to the No. 3 spot this week.  They are favored to win their next 4 games.

Next up is Leigh on Saturday at 1pm.
