If you’re outmanned against North Carolina, as most of their opponents this year will be, why in the world wouldn’t you at least experiment with a zone against this team after seeing what you saw at MSG? Far too often coaches rely on their own routine and preferences when they should instead seek to sow chaos in the opponent’s routine and preferences. Believe me, college players can adapt to a coach suddenly saying, "Let’s try zone."
John Gasaway, on Syracuse's defeat of UNC last Friday. He also makes a good comparison to the '07 tournament loss to Georgetown. I wonder how many zones the Heels will see this season?

I’ve thought the same thing and with K’s recent work with Boeheim this is a likely move for the Feb and March match ups.
I’m not a huge basketball fan, but I hear the chirping. From what I’ve seen this could be a long season unless the Heels change their approach. Drew’s a great traditional point guard. A kid who can hit the open man, makes the extra pass and run plays. He’s not Felton or Lawson in terms of getting to the rim and creating.
Adjusting to the strengths of this team (Thompson, Davis etc) will be the key to a solid season.
